Calumet Railroad
The Calumet Railroad is my freelanced Chicago area belt line. It was born out of an interest in the many short-line and belt railroads in and around Chicago during the 70's and 80's. These include the Indiana Harbor Belt; Elgin, Joliet, and Eastern Ry.; Belt Railway of Chicago; Chicago and Western Indiana; Chicago Rail Link; Chicago South Shore and South Bend; and others. Having a freelanced belt line also gives me some license when modeling my urban areas and justifying how I have steel operations on an ICG layout.
While the "history" of the Calumet Railroad hasn't been totally written, I see it as a merging or affiliation of the CWI and BRC, and possibly a loose partnership with the IHB. I'd like to have the BRC Century's make appearances on the layout, and having home road engines will provide for additional motive power interest.
