Track Plan

Below are the current incarnations of the track plan. These were done using the 3rd PlanIt Model Railroad CAD program; it should be obvious that I do not have the software mastered quite yet! But, it will give you (and me) a good sense for where things should go. When it comes time to lay track, this will be used as reference, but the actual track and switch positioning may differ a bitl

The lower level will be very urban with focus being on Markham yard, two steel mill locations, and interchange traffic coming from two staging areas.

This is another shot of the lower level in context of the whole basement. The lower left area of the diagram is where the "crew quarters" are located.

The upper level will be very rural / central Illinois landscape in contrast to the lower level. The 79 feet +/- that will compose the helix helps me to justify the difference between the two levels.
Below the first level is where the "north staging" will be located. I am considering a drawer concept to help alleviate the need for another helix and eliminate complex trackwork where there is little clearance. This diagram is just an approximation.
